LGBT history month – The Harvey Milk Foundation

Today I attended a talk led by Stuart Milk, well know for supporting the LGBT movement and also the nephew of Harvey Milk one of the worlds first openly gay elected officials.

Stuart has been supporting and spreading word about his uncles work for 2 decades on a global scale, he wasn’t just raising awareness about his uncle Harvey but also about how it is okay to ‘feel different’ to others.

Harvey Milk served less than a year in public office before his assassination, however his work changed not only states and nations but people’s lives and of course the rights and actions of modern day LGBT movement.

I think the fact that Stuart has chosen to raise awareness of Harvey Milk’s work and influence on many communities is truly amazing. Especially in today’s society where we are experiencing living history and changing the way the world looks upon the LGBT community entirely.

It is important for people to understand that it is completely okay to support and to be LGBT as many young teens do not fully understand what exactly LGBT stands for and what they support, but may have many friends who may be LGBT.

I am so grateful to have been able to have this experience!
